The disappearance of businessman Pintu Das’s family in Chandpur and the brutal murder of teacher Ganapati Chakraborty in Rangpur are not isolated incidents—they are chilling signs that the old extremist rule of BNP-Jamaat may once again be returning to the country.
The gruesome murder of veteran Rangpur teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his family, along with the recent mysterious disappearance of the four-member family of gold businessman Pintu Das in Chandpur, each point to a toxic political reality associated with BNP-Jamaat. History bears witness that whenever BNP-Jamaat comes close to power or assumes power, extremist, fundamentalist, militant and JMB-like organisations become emboldened across the country.
The threats reportedly linked to the disappearance of Pintu Das’s family in Chandpur are part of a blueprint to drive members of minority communities from their homes and force them to leave the country. During BNP-Jamaat governments, the security of minorities has repeatedly fallen to virtually zero.
Extremism backed by BNP-Jamaat, fundamentalist violence, and the masterminds behind such forces must be uprooted from the soil of Bangladesh. Extremist attacks can no longer be dismissed as mere “drama” by manipulating the judiciary and administration. Pintu Das’s family must be rescued immediately, and the genuine militant and terrorist networks behind the murder of teacher Ganapati Chakraborty must be brought to justice and given exemplary punishment.
