Prices of essential commodities in the market continue to rise, with vegetables seeing the sharpest increase. The price of green chilies has crossed the Tk 100 mark and surged beyond Tk 600 per kilogram. Except for potatoes, the prices of almost all vegetables have gone beyond the reach of ordinary consumers. Despite a good Boro rice harvest, rice prices have not declined as expected. Experts have warned that if rice imports from India remain halted, the price per kilogram of rice could reach as high as Tk 100.

According to a recently published report by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the inflation rate in September stood at 8.36%. However, many people believe that the report does not reflect the actual situation in the market. The report stated that the prices of both food and non-food items increased during this period. This price surge is being felt not only in urban areas but also in rural communities.

The sharp rise in market prices has put ordinary citizens in a difficult position. Consumers report that managing daily household expenses has become a major challenge. Experts have warned that if the government fails to take effective measures soon, inflationary pressure may rise even further.
