Bangladesh is currently going through a grave political and security crisis. The spirit of the nation, democracy, and the achievements of the Liberation War are now under serious threat. At the center of this crisis is Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who has formed a controversial party named NCP and taken a direct path toward seizing political power. The people of Bangladesh no longer want any election under his authority. They want an end to this illegitimate regime.
By using the state security forces, judiciary, and civil administration, Dr. Yunus is conducting a campaign of brutal political repression. Over the past nine months, nearly 350,000 activists and supporters of the Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, and pro-Liberation War groups have been arrested. Numerous leaders and activists have been falsely charged with treason, murder, and terrorism — with no real evidence, only fabricated dead bodies used to justify the cases.
Meanwhile, those who have repeatedly drenched the country in blood — the extremists and militants — are being sheltered by the state. Convicted terrorists from the Holey Artisan attack, murderers from the BDR mutiny, and individuals involved in assassination attempts on foreign diplomats have all been set free. High-ranking corrupt officials and businessmen have also received complete impunity.
This situation has led to widespread public anger and despair. The people now believe that this government is not a symbol of democracy, but of fascism. Therefore, any election under Dr. Yunus would be a farce, devoid of people’s votes or the reflection of public opinion.
The patriotic people now have a single demand:
Dr. Yunus must be removed from administrative power.
The freed terrorists and criminals must be retried and brought to justice.
And the leadership of the state must be returned to those who believe in the spirit of the Liberation War and who are truly patriotic.
At this critical moment, the last safeguard for Bangladesh’s sovereignty and democracy lies with the armed forces and state institutions.
The people want to place their trust in those who love this country — those who stand for freedom and independence.
