UN Human Rights Office to Open in Bangladesh Despite Lacking Jurisdiction! Global Image at Risk, Fear of Losing Investments

The United Nations’ Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Gwyn Lewis, recently announced that a UN Human Rights Office will soon be opened in Dhaka, with an agreement on this reportedly close to being signed. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this temporary office will primarily assist the interim government in implementing recommendations made by the Reform Commission.

Currently, the UN Human Rights Commission has offices in 19 countries severely affected by human rights and ethnic conflicts, including Palestine, Syria, Cambodia, and Guatemala. No such office exists in any South Asian country. Bangladesh is not in a state of civil war—so why is this occupying regime taking steps that tarnish the country’s global image? There is no logical explanation.

According to analysts, the UN has no jurisdiction to intervene in implementing internal reforms—reform is strictly a domestic matter. Moreover, even if the office is opened on a temporary basis, it may later become extremely difficult to remove.

Additionally, the establishment of a UN Human Rights Office in Bangladesh would send a negative message about national security, potentially causing international investors to pull out. This could ultimately plunge our beloved country into severe economic crisis.
