The ‘Humanitarian Corridor’ Plot Was Exposed — So Is U.S. Advisor Khalil Now Laying a New Trap with a ‘Free Trade Zone’

Roger Rahman, also known as Khalilur Rahman — a U.S. citizen, a close associate of the current de facto ruler Dr. Yunus, and a high representative for American interests — is now under widespread criticism. Though he holds the title of National Security Advisor, his actions repeatedly reflect attempts to undermine Bangladesh’s sovereignty.

Recently, he and his government had promoted the controversial idea of establishing a “humanitarian corridor” in Rakhine, citing UN justifications to make it seem acceptable. Reportedly, this corridor was to be set up in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. However, the proposal faced intense public backlash and concerns over potential military conflict, which led to opposition even within the armed forces.

Now, Advisor Khalil has reintroduced the idea under a new disguise — this time as a so-called “Free Trade Zone” for the United States. But what exactly is this trade zone? In reality, it would serve as a logistical base or supply hub for American goods. Sources reveal that a high-level meeting on this proposal was recently held at the Ministry of Commerce, targeting the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf area — the same region earlier proposed for the humanitarian corridor.

But why Cox’s Bazar? The Bangladesh government under the Awami League is already developing over 100 economic zones. BEZA Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun has been promoting these zones to attract foreign investment. Zones like Mirsarai or Anwara are designated for product supply and manufacturing for investors.

So why propose a “Free Trade Zone” specifically in a risky, border-adjacent area like Cox’s Bazar or Teknaf — and only for the United States? This raises serious questions.
