A wave of alarm and fear has swept through Bangladesh following reports that significant portions of the Ruma Thana (police jurisdiction) in Bandarban’s hill tracts have fallen under the control of the Arakan Army and the Kuki-Chin armed group.

Though these groups are formally part of Myanmar’s internal conflict, they have now breached the border and begun establishing a foothold inside Bangladesh, posing a direct threat to national security.

According to local sources and security analysts, the Arakan Army and the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) have launched a coordinated incursion from the Myanmar frontier and set up bases in the remote, mountainous terrain of Bangladesh. Parts of Ruma Thana are now effectively under their control, leaving government authorities deeply concerned. Fear has gripped the local population, and schools and markets in the area have become eerily deserted.

The presence of such armed rebel groups inside Bangladeshi territory not only undermines internal stability but also carries the potential to destabilize regional diplomatic relations. If Myanmar’s rebel factions, engaged in civil war against the ruling junta, begin operating from within Bangladesh, the India–Myanmar–Bangladesh border could spiral into a volatile warzone.
